“DJ Azúcar’s natural affinity for Latin, African and Caribbean music is what makes his mixing style to be “sweet as Azúcar” 🙂
DJ Azúcar “officially” started as a club DJ in 1999 playing Latin music in Huntsville, AL, although my “unofficial” DJ days go back to my childhood in Moca, Puerto Rico, where I would create mix tapes using an actual cassette recorder with songs from the radio, or play my Disco records in garage parties with my father’s turntable… LOL.
My passion has always been Disco and House music and between 2007 and 2011, I played at various spots in New York City as part of the Astoria/NYC DJ Group (ADG). I currently live in the Chicago area where I have played at Drink, Drop Lounge, Exit, Gallery Bar, Hostel Earphoria, NV Lounge, Parlour on Clark, Simone’s, Six 06 Cafe Bar, Spybar, Stereo Nightclub, The Roots Room, Twisted Cantina, West 55th Street, Zero Degrees Lounge, Slammin’ Saturdays (online show), House of Sol festival (2015-17), Fiesta Boricua festival (2018-19), Brunch-Ski and WNUR 89.3 FM. I’ve also had the honor to be invited to play in other states like Alaska (KONR 106.1 FM, SubZero Microlounge, and We Are One: A Night of Chicago House Music event at Koot’s Ice Bar in Anchorage); Hawai’i (Soulgasm event at Bar 35 in Honolulu, and Vibes event at My Bar in Kona); Oregon (Sunday Sessions event at The Big Legrowlski in Portland), and Puerto Rico (Libélula Techno & Tapas in San Juan, and Radioactiv3 event in Ponce).
